I just bought a second pair of these due to their versatility and usefulness in the backcountry. They are thick and reinforced enough to handle glissading and rock climbing, but they are also breathable enough to feel good on the uphill. I really like that the bottom of the pants stretch to fit over my snowboarding boots.

I picked up a second pair of these after years in an older pair. The newer style legs are a little less flared at the base which I am good with. The pockets did unfortunately shrink and makes storage and access more difficult. Also the fabric seems a little stiffer and less flexible than prior version. Overall still good pants.

I own a ton of MH stuff. Good outdoor gear usually. The older style chockstone is all i wear at work. I work outside all year as a carpenter. Good: material is stout but flexible. Pocket liners are a nice mesh. Old style clip belt works well usually (more on that) Bad: front pocket zippers (both) zipped themselves right off the track within 2 weeks. Front pockets are anemic. Good for receipts and that's it. Not a big deal though. Side pocket no longer fits a cell phone No rear pocket. Belt loop is one continuous sheath. Belt comes out every time In the wash. It's quite a process to get it back in. I miss the old style chockstone with zipper back pocket and Clip Belt.

I used the previous model for a few years and loved them. Bought the latest edition and it leaves much to be desired. The pant material was changed, much thinner than before. The angle of entry for hip pockets is too high so you can't put your hand in with a hip belt on. The size of the pockets are so small now I can barely get a full ungloved hand in. One pocket I couldn't get my palm in. They got rid of the thigh pockets altogether. The cuff extender was shortened so I can get them over my ski boots. The crampon guard was removed so an tap from a point will make a nice big cut.

These pants fit great, but the quality leaves a lot to be desired when operating in an alpine environment with sharp, or abrasive things around. On my first four day outing I managed to tear four small holes in the legs. Lousy fabric quality if you ask me.

Pilled after one wash, super comfortable and nice fit but the fabric was really bad quality especially for the piece! Hope they make these again with better quality fabrics.

Purchased this pants for Alpine and lightweight ice climbing pants. On the very first day started to notice the material was piling. By the end of two days of use the piling is getting so bad I fear it will tear. The piling occurs between your legs, and around where backpack waist belt rubs; where safety harness is it's even worse. Can't call it an Alpine pants if it gets ruined on day 1 of alpine use. I'm reaching out to Warranty for a return/exchange/replacement for something that is better suited for real alpine use. One last issue, the pants are a big wider than needed; so you do have some excess material that can get caught on crampons. I used gators to avoid any snagging. I have two other brand pants and they are nice and tight around the legs to avoid this issue. A zipper would make a difference.

I purchased these pants for light XC ski touring in the rockies. They have far exceeded expectations. I paired them with the ghee tights and worn them at elevations from 6-12,000 feet in temperatures from -5 to the mid 30's. The wind in Colorado and Wyoming is insane and they have been breathable during high output activities but not cold during inevitable pauses and breaks. I highly recommend these. They stretch but are durable and reinforced in just the right spots. I don't even notice them, (unless I'm diving into a pocket for snacks etc) which I think is the highest approval possible

Nice out of package after washing piling makes them look horrible. Spent a lot of money for a low quality pant. Dissappointed to say the least

The pants are comfortable and fit well, also look pretty. But for the price, being an "Alpine" pant and it says it's good for backcountry skiing.... nope. It's a very thin, light material which would be great for a spring or summer hike, not for anything in winter even if you wear thermals underneath. I have to say, I used to buy MH 5-7 years ago and I would gladly pay a high price because of quality. Everything I bought lately seem to keep the price tag but the quality is simply no longer there.

Way over priced the material was poor and uncomfortable.

Bought these because I loved the original Chockstone pants for backpacking and am gearing up for colder and more rugged adventures. The description describes these as a "heavyweight softshell" but doesn't say they have DWR coating. I can now verify that they DON'T have any water resistance and they're NOT a softshell as the industry defines it. MH should really change the description (or even better - update the pants). That said, these are still pretty nice. I've worn these out once (backpacking), here's my initial thoughts: The material that covers the seat and outside of the legs seems really durable, even more so than the Chockstone (which I was already impressed with). There's extra reinforcement by the heels where you might scrape your crampons - a nice detail. I'm tall and slim and usually wear a 32/34, for these I purchased the Medium Long. As the Alpines aren't numeric sized the fit is more like a 33/34 but the low profile cinch belt takes care of it just fine. Because they're a little larger I was able to wear the Ghost Whisperer down pant underneath on a particularly cold morning which was a great combo. The stretch in the gusset, inner leg panels and waist provides great mobility and they look consistent in terms of proportion - no odd baggy spots etc.(my partner tells me they look quite good). The thigh pocket is small, ok for carrying a 4"x4" folded map or cliff bar but not much else. Overall, I really like these and would love to have a true, DWR softshell version. Maybe I can apply the DWR myself? I'll ask customer service...

I have bought many hiking or alpine pants, but this pant is above and beyond the best money i have spent. Flexible, durable, extremely comfortable. It transitions well to urban life as well, dresses up for a dinner night.
