Poor Quality
I bought this unit last year and found it to be buggy, sometimes functional and others not so much. The menu was cumbersome and the sonar would randomly stop. I used it about a dozen times before it just died altogether. I would not recommend this model.

Miss Leading
GPS sucks bc it doesn’t show you any charts with the gps it’s just a white screen and a line. The advertisement on the box is miss leading saying it has gps.

Buy Something That Works
I bought the locator 3 months ago but had the boat laid up until today. This was the first time used. The unit turned on then after a few minutes the screen went black. I could hear the beeping when I tried to recover the screen but to no avail. Brand new, not working...not happy!

Greatly Dissapointed
my unit came with the purchase of new boat, I should have grilled the salesman more because there really is no GPS , just a chart plotter that won't take lake chips. and no ability to upgrade. unfortunately you can't tell by looking at the unit because all it says on the face of it is Hook Reveal. anybody buying a Tracker boat , Heads Up!!

Cheap
Bought a new G3 boat with the 5x with gps. Dealer made sure he mentioned gps several times. It’s a white screen with a arrow. What gps has ever been that way. Cheap handhelds have a map. I wasn’t looking for bottom contours but a white screen with a arrow is ridiculous. I’m trying to get a refund on the unit from the manufacturer now. Waste of money and no purpose for spending extra when’s it’s just a basic fish finder only.

Disappointed It Needed Service So Soon
I purchased the Hook Reveal 5x SS for my new pontoon. Dealer installed the unit and I used it for less than 2 hours when it wouldn’t start. After being on hold for hours to speak to a customer service person it was decided the unit needed to be sent to the factory for service. When returned the explanation was it needed a software update. Sine I only use the unit on occasion I was without the unit most of my summer. When working the graphics are good. Turning the unit off should be redesigned to eliminate multiple steps.

This Does Not Have Maps, And Apparently Cannot Load Maps
From what I have read, this does not have the maps, and from my understanding cannot even load genesis maps or other maps, from other users. It may be able to create its own genesis maps, but that is unclear to me. I returned this and ordered the other. Dick's description of Hook Reveal 5x and the Hook Reveal 5 are very poor as it does not appear to differentiate the two.

Nice Display
I purchase this unit to replace a previous Lowrance I had and it was not working anymore. (too old I guess) This unit has a nice display compared to my previous old Lowrance model. I thought, for some reasosn, that it was coming with Maps already loaded in it, but was sort of disappointed to learn that it seems to be optional. The description shows it is "compatible" with C-Map but it is coming blank as far as pre-loaded Map. I believe it can be purchased separately but at purchase time, it was not obvious. I also found out that the lenght of cable (to get the sensor connected) coming with the unit is not that long if you have a long boat, and you have to purchase a cable extender separately. I also thought there was more hardware in the box, so it can physically be install in different scenario. For example, I had to purchase separately again, a gasket to make it fit the pre-hole existing on my boat, since the hardware in the box was not adequate for my custom installation. A few things that I didn't find very convenient. All in all, I spent a lot more to finally have this unit installed and working and I should probably have purchased a different model that was a better fit for my specific need.

Perfect For My 16 Ft Boat
After looking at dozens of different fish and depth finders I settled on the Hook Reveal 5X splitshot. The many different options offered by Lowrance on the Hook reveal 5x sold me once I compared the whole package to other brands. The down scan, GPS plotter and CHIRP sonar are all great tools offered with this unit. I have been using it for 2 months now and really like this unit.

Not Bad For The Money But 5" Is A Small Screen
Returned a 7x and 5x within a month, being an X model I couldn't load map data, not bad gear just didn't fit my needs... not a fan of the 5", and would suggest anyone to get at least the 7"

Power & Transducer Plugs Are A Backward Step
Unit is great except for the new Hook design power and transducer plugs. They are not easy to insert or remove. For a fixed unit they may be okay, but not if you need to remove the unit at the end of the trip. This is the sixth Lowrance GPS product I've owned and I'm really disappointed with the backward design step for the plugs on this unit. Otherwise, a good display and easy to use unit.
