Otaki Climbing Greatness

First of all, this is my second pair of Otaki’s and I cannot say enough about them. I have a wider foot than most and this shoe performs above any expectations. I utilize this shoe for both gym and crag work. The downturned sole is my favorite feature. Having S3 technology really helps me hook while sending projects. I highly recommend the Otaki for any climber looking to up their game.

Otaki

I've worn the shoe through about a month of climbing now. I sized down from my street shoe size 43 to a 41.5 (slightly more conservative than la sportiva's recommendation of 2-3 sizes). After showering with the shoes to stretch them, the fit is what I would call "performance comfortable." I take them off between boulder problems and sport routes at the gym, but I don't have any pain (for small durations) after wearing them for a month. My feet are on the wide side, and I really like the fit of these compared with something like the Muira, which feel narrower. I ultimately chose these because I plan to use them on slabby Pennsylvania sport climbing as the weather turns again in the fall. These have been stiff enough to edge and downturned enough to stick to overhanging boulder problems. I really wanted a "do it all" shoe, and I think this fits the bill. Rubber is sticky.

Comfortable And Precise

Great evolution from miura. Lower volume and just as comfortable and precise. Always been a fan of lasportiva and they always deliver great quality and durability.

Great Shoe

If you are looking for an aggressive shoe, this is a good choice. I love the aggressiveness of the toe and downturn. Coming from a flat shoe with more rounded toe it is certainly a learning curve to get the feel of them. I went down 0.5 on the size for a tighter fit and am happy with it but man were they tight the first few climbs.

My Go To Shoe

These shoes fit me perfectly and have been great for sport climbing and bouldering. If you're climbing overhangs you may want something more aggressive or with better top rubber but for all else these rock!

Good, Never Used Anything Else

I’ve used this shoe and nothing else for the past 5 years, in various sizes. I’ve climbed boulders, overhanging sport routes, Yosemite trad, and alpine in the Wyoming wilderness. Thousands of pitches and boulders. And after all that I honestly can’t say how good they are because I’ve never used anything else. But good enough for me

Great Semi-aggressive Climbing Shoe For The Gym

I bought these when I had to send my La Sportiva Skwamas out for resoling. These are great for gym climbing overhanging bouldering routes or edging face routes. Better at edging than the Skwamas but not as good at smearing. Likely less aggressive than the La Sportiva Solutions. Run slightly smaller than Skwamas, I think I have size 45 in those but 45.5 in the Otakis.

Like The Color! Love The Curves!

I’ve had this for a bit now, as I had to get rid of my beginner pair after the turmoil I put it through. I have to admit, I didn’t know what I was getting into with this pair of Otakis. Yet, after wearing it a few times on the wall, it’s one sweet, super comfy pair of rubber. The curve is just enough of an upgrade from neutral pairs, helping transition slowly into more performance oriented shoes. But not too much that makes you scream: “Get ‘‘em off!” As a fan of laces, I would say the velco closure is growing on me too. Great pair with an acceptable break-in period.

Solid Shoe For Gym And Sport Climbing

I'm on my second pair of these. I alternate between these and Solutions depending on the climb. The rubber on the Otaki's is slightly harder and so they are a bit more durable. My climbing partner uses the women's version to get the best of both as they have the softer Solutions rubber.

Good Shoe For Edging And Face Climbing

I got this the other day and I've taken them out a few times. They have some really nice edging and shape. I'm still breaking them in, which isn't as tough as expected. One thing I noticed was that the heel rubber seems a bit slippery, so my heel hooks tend to slip off, but that might be just because I haven't broken it in fully.

Love These!

This is my second pair and I love them. Specifically for edging. I also think they’re one of sportivas more sensitive aggressive shoe. I like that I can really feel where my foot is. Precision. I’ll for sure be getting another pair after I destroy these.

Great Shoe For Indoor Climbing

I got a pair a size and half smaller than my normal shoe size. My first pair of shoes that I’ve broken in and man they were painful for the first few climbs! Now they fit like a glove and make me feel like Spider-Man on the wall.

Great Aggresive Shoe

Great shoes. Wear a street size 11.5, snowboard boots size 11, found the 41.5 size to be a very snug fit for me. Should hopefully stretch with some use

Awesome Edging. Awesome Performance.

These are my go to shoe for most of my climbing endeavors including bouldering, sport, and trad. I rocked the Muira Vs for a while but the Otake fits my fat feet better, has a seemingly slightly more aggressive platform, and the heel has been upgraded for better hookin. I still bust out the Skwamas for certain toe hookin cruxes and TC Pros for OW and foot smashing jam cracks. I love the Oooootaki!!

Great All Around Shoe

Bought these a month or so ago and have had a tougher time breaking them in, but they are great! I know style isn't the most important, but on top of working great they look great. The traction on the heel and toe is a plus for hooks and for my foot shape having two straps to adjust with is always better than one.
