Retrograde Flow?

I have the Therabody leg squeezies and have added the Normatec Elite Hip. I use the leg squeezies first followed by the Elite Hip but as a physician, I'm a bit concerned about the retrograde flow of blood on the venous side against closed valves. Maybe it shouldn't be a concern given how many veins empty into the venous system. It just seems to me like the real solution is full leg all the way up to the hip with sequential compression so that the blood can't flow backwards against closed valves and possibly damage your veins. Now, all my concerns aside, I do like the TFL pressure, the SI and piriformis pressure. I wish there was a way to target it even more like maybe including a lacrosse ball in the kit to target the SI...in typing this just now, I think I'll try that this evening during my session.

These have changed recovery times between hard workouts.

Incredibly portable I use these daily at home and on the go and really appreciate that I can take these anywhere very easily. They offer the same fantastic compression as the original normatec pump design and the battery lasts far longer than I was expecting. Fantastic product that helps relieve some of my hip and lower back pain alongside a consistent stretching routine.

This product is amazing. It covers most of my quads and keeps them fresh. But it also helps keep my lower back muscles loose. I'm started using this to help recover from back surgery and to get and keep moving. I had had a very hard time keeping my nervous system from tightening my legs up. This helps me feel normal again. A true game changer!!

Recovery And Mobility !

I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review — and honestly, I’m a fan. I’ve actually purchased an older version of this model before, which allowed you to plug in both leg and shoulder attachments. This new design, though, is all-in-one — no hookups required — just turn it on and you're off ! I live in the mountains and do a lot of snowboarding, hiking, and taking my dogs out, so recovery is huge for me. I love coming home to this machine and can genuinely feel a difference in reduced swelling and improved circulation. Sometimes I even use it while I’m working at the computer editing photos and videos!

Game Changer!

Wow! This was my first time using compression therapy for my hips and I genuinely feel a difference. After two hip surgeries, I thought feeling dull soreness for days after intense workouts was going to be the new normal to me, but this recovery device has significantly decreased the recovery time I need. I use it conjunction with cold therapy (ice packs) and rolling out. Usually after runs and workouts, but I'm interested in starting to use it for pre-workout warm ups. I love how easy it is to use and how compact it gets to fit in the storage bag. The charge lasts a long time! So I can see myself traveling with this for races. My dad used it too and he's been having hip pain from sitting for too long. He swears he feels a difference too and steals it from me everyday. Because I haven't used a device like this before, I was a little lost on what settings to use. I tried to connect it to the app but couldn't find this device (probably because it's so new) so I just put it on the lowest setting. I wish it came with a guide on which settings to use!

Essential Recovery Tool

I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review… and here it is. If you bike or sit in a desk chair every day, I think this is an essential piece of kit. I suffer from tight hips and these really were a huge quality of life improvement. I used these primarily post work out and bike ride but would also throw them on after a long work day relax and release the built-up tension from sitting all day. If you are training hard or just a weekend warrior, I think these will up your game. The improved recovery time kind of seems like cheat code. My only two wishes are 1) if they were just ever so slightly more powerful that would be awesome. I found I primarily used them in the highest setting 2) I wish I had these earlier. They really are a game changer.

Huge Recovery Benefits

I've been using it immediately after run workouts, or leg workouts speed up recovery and help with circulation, lymph drainage, as well as a little massage treat for me as a reward for finally doing leg day. I've had some tight hips, glutes, and hamstrings that have contributed to some low back pain when lifting (even with good form and lower weights). Massages help a lot but over time can get expensive and time consuming. So having this available to do post workouts or even just while watching a show at night has been super helpful, both in improving recovery as well as loosening up the muscle groups. Pros: Great compression around the thighs (quads and hamstrings). Decent compression on sides of the hip. Super intuitive controls. (the only thing I had to look up in the manual was what the targeted area numbers referred to, whether "1" or "2" was upper or lower region). 7 different levels of intensity and session lengths. Battery lasted HOURS of active usage. Adjustable fit. Cons: Not great compression on your glutes (just hard to compress front-to-back when you can't press a lot from the front). Pretty necessary to do laying down. I tried using it while at my stand-up desk and it slid down a lot (maybe a little suspender-style attachment to help with that?) Hard to get good compression on petite bodies- my girlfriend who's an endurance athlete with a "skinny muscular" build was able to get decent compression on her legs on the tightest leg adjustment, but even with the upper straps cinched all the way, she wasn't able to feel much compression around her hips. Normatec Elite Hips

I have been using the Normatech elite hips unit and I am impressed with how I feel during and after a session. I have recently had some muscle soreness in my glutes and quads after workouts and this unit has lessened the amount of time I am sore. I prefer to stay around level 5 but there are 7 levels. If you are having acute low back discomfort the unit does feel nice with the compression in that area. I have tried sessions from 15-30 minutes but the settings do go up to an hour. I prefer to use this after my workouts but because of the warmth it provides to the muscles I do feel it would be a good warm up before exercise. The device cycles between the thighs and hips and the compression feels much needed after a workout. It's light weight and you can use it multiple sessions before needing to charge again. It comes with a draw string bag for storage which is quick and easy. The unit is very simple and user friendly. I like the convenience of not needing to be plugged in while using so I can take it anywhere. This device could be used before a work or training session to warm up or after for recovery. It works best for fit if you have compression shorts on. If you wear loose clothing it can bunch up. I have been happy with my experience and do recommend this product. Filled A Hole In My Recovery!

I am finding the Normatec Elite Hip to be a big help in my recovery. It is filling a spot that my compression boots can't fill. First, a bit about me. I am an ultra marathoner and I usually do at least two marathons or further per year. I'm in my 40's and only started running about 13 years ago. I love my compression boots but where I always want the compression the most is in my quads, usually higher up than the boots can reach. This is where the Normatec Elite Hip slides in perfectly. I am able to get that highly beneficial, rhythmic compression on my upper quads and now even my hips! I recently completed a downhill marathon out west and my biggest pain points after was, you guessed it, my hips and quads. This little gem was a game changer. The Normatec Elite Hip has 7 different levels of compression, I love #7. This makes it pretty universal for whatever one's recovery needs. The device is very adjustable. I am 5'11“ and 170lbs with a 30“ waist for reference. I had the straps pulled almost as tight as they would go, but there is a lot of strap so I imagine this would work for most people. It is really easy to use with simple, intuitive controls. The best part is that everything is encompassed in one package without the need for external hoses or other connections. Really my only complaint is the fact that it's 2025 and Normatec thinks they are apple and didn't use USB type C for charging. It would be so much more convenient if it used type C like literally almost every other small battery powered device made in the past 5+ years. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review, though I try my best to not let that influence my review in any way. The bottom line, this filled a hole in my recovery that was much needed and appreciated. Normatec's rhythmic compression is different, and better, than the lower priced generic versions you find on certain sites. I would absolutely recommend this to any distance runner, any athlete who has muscular hip issues, but really anyone who's on their feet a lot can benefit from this automated therapy.

Fresh Hips, Thighs, Glutes

I was lucky to receive the Hyperice Normatec Elite Hip right after my trail half marathon. While training I was averaging 20-30 miles a week with noticeable tightness as my training plan went on. For recovery, I was using contrast therapy, the roller, and Hyperice's Hypervolt. Initial thought: Right after my race, I went home to test the device for the first time. I have used Hyperice's Normatec Leg set once before and really enjoyed it. The price is expensive so one could understand why I did not buy that device. I actually did two cycles because it felt so great. The first one to get acquainted with the feeling and pressure. The second to fully relax with a tighter fit. There are 7 levels of compression and I found myself switching between 3 and 4. I like the portability of the device - no cords, packable, light-ish. (Battery is the heaviest part). During the operation, it does make kind of a jarring noise. It is somewhat loud/noisy and my cat didn't like it. The Morning After: Waking up, I was surprised to find that my hips, thighs, and glutes felt more fresh when compared to my calves. I went on a recovery bike ride and felt mostly great! I was still a little sore. I used the device in the 15 minute mode before and the 30 minute mode right after. It's so comfortable and easy to integrate into a morning activity. Later in the Week: I continued to use this device throughout the following week to maximize recovery. I started to use it alongside the massage gun and contrast therapy. I don't find the lack of heat a minus, but with contrast therapy/using the sauna, I think it helps improve the benefits. The device is so comfortable, I think I used it on average 2 times a day mostly to test it to its fullest. This is a testament to how many cycles the battery has. It lasts long! Two weeks later: I'm reminiscing about using these during my climbing sessions and bringing them on trips! Final Thoughts: Hyperice's Normatec Elite Hip is a great addition to someone who knows recovery well and has a routine. If you're starting out with running or a sport that tests your hips, I would recommend stretching and a roller. Being mindful of the price, I think it great as a supplement to maximize recovery. It is super comfortable, straightforward to use and integrates seamlessly into everyday life. I like that I can still recover with minimal effort. Plus I get to drink my coffee and watch TV! My legs always feel great the next day and I know they will feel even greater in the future. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review.

Helps My Aching Hips!!

The Normatec Elite Hip Elite offers my painful hips much needed relief after a long run. As someone who suffers from arthritis in both hips, my hips hurt all the time. My home gym looks like a PT office, as I have numerous gadgets to keep me healthy. My hips tend to stiffen up even more after a long run. The Elite Hip offers excellent compression where it's needed. I usually use it for about 15 minutes after I run, and I feel that it speeds along my recovery. The targeted compression helps improve circulation, and I feel like my hips move better after using the Elite Hip. I love that I can use it on its own without a large control box and cords. It's easy to adjust and use. I'm a big fan of compression to help prevent, reduce and heal certain injuries. I feel that using the Elite Hip on a regular basis will keep me moving and help me achieve my marathon and ultramarathon goals. I would recommend this to anyone who has hip pain, especially runners. Finally; A Glute, Hip, It Band Compression Product That Works

Disclosure: I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. Unboxing & First Impressions: Hyperice nails the premium experience-the packaging is clean, compact, and travel-friendly. The device was about 75% charged out of the box, which is great for immediate use. The size surprised me (smaller than expected), and the cord-free design makes it far more portable than traditional compression systems. Fit & Setup: The Elite Hip fits like a pair of hockey breezers-loose at first until you tighten the thigh straps and clip the buckles. Once powered on, the compression zones engage and the fit feels secure and balanced. The adjustable straps make it easy to dial in comfort. Performance & Feel: I primarily used the device post-run and post-strength sessions, including after my goal fall race. The compression is impressive-especially across the quads, hips, and glutes. The overlapping zones eliminate gaps, so you get consistent pressure from your quads through your lower back. Each cycle feels like a dynamic flush, promoting blood flow and reducing soreness. It genuinely mimics the benefits of a massage or rolling session without the effort. Battery life is solid-I averaged 7-10 cycles per charge, and the quick recharge keeps downtime minimal. Impact on Recovery: This device made a noticeable difference in my recovery. After high-mileage weeks and my race, my usual trouble spots-tight hips, IT band irritation, and glute trigger points-felt significantly better. I believe the targeted compression helped improve circulation and restore hip mobility faster than my typical foam rolling and manual tools. Heat vs. Compression: The Elite Hip doesn't include heat, but honestly, the compression alone delivers excellent results. I didn't feel like heat was missing for recovery purposes. Who Should Use This: I'd recommend this to endurance athletes, runners, and anyone with hip or glute tightness who values recovery and convenience. It's also great for athletes who travel, thanks to its compact, cord-free design. Room for Improvement: The fit is good once the product is engaged and working, but initial setup could mention something for first-time users worried about it being 'baggy' before using it. A quick-start video or QR code in the box would help. Final Thoughts As a runner averaging 50 miles per week, plus strength and cycling sessions, recovery is critical for my performance. I've used many tools-Theragun, Therabody Jet Boots, foam rollers, lacrosse balls - but the Normatec Elite Hip stands out for its portability, ease of use, and targeted compression. It's a game-changer for hip and glute recovery.
