Not Strong And Warm Enough For Backpacking Trips

Bought it for a two-week backpacking trip to Katmai, Alaska. This tent broke first out of four of our tents, when we were hit by a snow storm. It lost competition to Hilleberg Nammatj 2, then Mountain Hardwear Trango 3.1. The winner was Hilleberg Tarra 2-person tent, which stood strong and accommodated 6 survivors. The inner door is a MESH ONLY, which makes this tent suitable for warm weather only. What contributed to the failure most is the weak 9-mm pole material. Replacing it with the legendary 10-mm poles, adding centerline guylines (as in Nammatj), and adding waterproof / windproof cloth to the door would make this tent stronger and more versatile.

I Just Love It.

It's a great size for camping with my wife. It's so nice to carry around, so I think I'll use it often. Thank you so much for allowing me to purchase a fantastic tent.

Great Tent

Great tents, well constructed and will last for years. They are built to last. The Anjan 2 person sets up quick and will sleep 2 comfortably. You’ll have to put some gear outside if there’s 2 of you. But a giant space for one person and gear.

Great Choice....if You Understand The Limitations

This tent occupies a very attractive space on the weight/livability spectrum, BUT...it has some pitching limitations not found on heavier tents. Notably, it can be challenging to get a perfect pitch if you will use in scenarios where you can’t properly stake it out (I’ve had a couple of nights in the high Sierra where we were ridge hopping and pitched in small, rocky spots where setting the required guy lines was tough) OR where you can’t be choosy about the direction it faces (it does best in high winds when you can put the ‘foot’ of the tent into wind....which may not be ideal if the ground slopes the wrong way). Aside from those two pitching challenges, this thing is darn near perfect. Very livable for two friendly people and almost as light as some tarps.

Lightweight Yet Durable And Roomy

During my 2-month hiatus from circumnavigating the USA on my bicycle, I decided to seek out a lighter weight, more compact and more breathable tent to takeover for the Hilleberg Soulo I had used for 180 days on this trip. The Soulo is fantastic and is still at 100%, but is overkill for bicycle touring in warm weather. So I went to the Hilleberg website and discovered that the Anjan had been redesigned to enable the outer tent to offer better rain protection, and the poles and sleeves now enable one-side insertion and simplifies that process. (A must in tight spaces.) When I bought the Soulo, another consideration was the strength and durability of the Kerlon 1200 fabric, but now I know the Kerlon 1000 of the Anjan will be just fine for whatever I throw at it in 3-season use. Another reason I ordered the Anjan is roominess. While the Soulo is awesome and designed for efficient space in the cold, it is close in there during hot summer nights or rainy days. The Anjan offers more room and better ventilation in those instances. What struck me most when I received the Anjan, was the light weight! Under 4 lbs for a 2-man Hilleberg! A full 1.5 lbs lighter than the Soulo. As far as quality construction is concerned, I checked the stitching on each and every seam, and only found one tiny errant thread. (I’ll never understand how a person can handle sewing that slippery Kerlon fabric.) Having dealt with Hilleberg’s customer service person (Shannon) in the past, I am confident that they truly care about any concerns I may have down the road, and I look forward to a long-term relationship with them.
