Great Lightweight Pack!

I purchased this pack as a lightweight and smaller option for weekend trips. I have the diva 60 and love it for bigger trips with a heavier pack. So far I have used my facet 45 on a 3-day hike in the Grand Canyon. I absolutely love it! I think I will be using this much more than my bigger pack for weekend trips! My load only ended up being about 25 lb but it felt like I was carrying nothing! I love that the hip belt is long enough to wrap all the way around my hips. This may be an issue for smaller hikers. I am 5'10 and weigh 125 lb. With a loaded pack the hip belt was as tight as it goes but I was able to get it just as tight as I needed! Any smaller and I'd have a hard time getting it as tight as I want. I was also surprised how tall the medium was for me! I have a hard time getting packs that are tall enough since I have a long torso. This pack fit me perfectly! I had enough room up above to use the shoulder straps to take some weight off of my shoulders. This pack seems to be the perfect balance between comfort and lightweight! I love the springy trampoline feel around my back. I hike a lot in the desert so having air flow between my back and my pack is important to me. The pack had just enough pockets to keep me organized. I love that a water bottle can slide into the side pockets and be accessed easily while walking. The material seems high quality and it seems like it will last me for many years of hiking! Highly recommend!

A Thru Hiker’s Dream!

I loved this pack so much I carried it all the way from Georgia to Maine on my 2024 Appalachian Trail thru hike. I swapped the brain for the rain flap to save weight, as the Facet is a happy medium between UL and trampoline framed packs. The materials are hydrophobic and didn’t require a pack cover with my dry stuff in a dynema pack liner. Although 45L inside, this bag swallows an enormous amount of gear and its thoughtful design made it easy to pack and carry for 6 1/2 months. I didn’t need to carry a bunch of stuff outside of the pack because everything fit, and it’s low profile made it easy to squeeze through tight spaces without taking it off. I could easily access water bottles from the side pockets on the move with everything cinched tightly thanks to the stretch mesh pockets being outside of the side straps. The hip belt pockets held ample snacks, headphones, pepper spray, sanitizer, gum and fits a pro max iphone. Even though i was dragging it on rocks and other trail abuses, the materials are durable and held up. The only downsides were the perimeter frame would sometimes squeak if I overloaded it way past the 30lbs maximum (a reminder to not resupply hungry!) and I wish the hip belt on the M/L could get smaller. I washed it twice with dish soap in a bathtub when the straps got too stinky, but this pack had noticeably less funk than what others in my trail fam were carrying. Polygiene for the win! Overall, the Facet/Focal is an underrated but exceptionally comfortable and durable bag for long-distance backpacking. I am 5’6” with a 17” torso and the M/L fit like a glove which is weird for a pack. I would take it again and look forward to future adventures with this pack.

Durable And Comfortable

I bought this pack to upsize from my GregoryJuno 30 for desert tortoise survey work. I LOVE that it comes in extra small to fit my short torso. It was comfortable enough to wear for 8+ hours/day and fit all my required gear. I did feel some discomfort while carrying 4 liters of water plus gear for long distances but this may have been more of a personal problem than a problem with the pack or its fit- I felt fine after dropping to 3 liters or less. The hip belt pockets provided enough room for a leatherman, sunscreen stick, chapstick, and lens wipes. The belt straps seemed a bit long, but better too long than too short. I liked that I could clip my GPS unit to the elastic loop on the shoulder strap (not as ideal as the loop on the juno 30 strap, but still worked). My hydration bladder did not fit perfectly on the rservoir hanger hardware, so it took some extra effort to get in and out of the pack, but it was worth not having to buy an entirely new reservoir. Since this bag is meant more for backpacking, it had fewer organizing pockets than a standard daypack but worked fine, especially with separate ditty bags for some of my gear. The side mesh water bottle pockets were a strength- they seemed durable and could be loaded either from the top or at an angle to make it easy to reach in while walking. I feel like the ventilation gap helped me stay cool in the desert heat. Overall this is a great pack and I'd definitely recommend it for use as an outdoors work bag.

Great Smaller Pack

Great sturdy pack! Comfortable to carry - true fit. Plenty of pockets to stay organized, especially with the hip belt pockets! The mesh side pockets are large enough to hold two water bottles in one pocket if needed. The bladder is great. I put it in the hydration pocket and fed the hose through to my front and put the magnet on the opposite pack strap, it worked perfectly. I dislike the adjustable loops on the bottom of the pack to hold your tent or sleeping pad. It was difficult to push my tent through the loops, it would make more sense to have buckles on the loops to easily open and adjust them. It's also hard to adjust them since they feed through to where the water bottle mesh pockets are so you would need to remove your water bottles to adjust while on the trail. I also dislike the extra opening on the mesh water bottle pockets. If I am packing light I usually only take one pocket for an extra water bottle and the other pocket to store things I want to access easily while I am walking like my phone, snacks, camera, etc - things that are too big for the hip belt pockets. Some things would stay in the pack but when I took it off and set it down they would fall out of that extra hole. I know some people prefer this style of pocket so maybe it could be an option when choosing your pack?
