I bought this hat because I was sick of having the wind blow snow on my cheeks while snowblowing my driveway. It's very warm and the shearing fleece is nice on windy days. My only complaint is the lack of flexibility of the brim. It would be more comfortable if the bill would allow you to bend it and have it stay curved a little.

perfect hat for mount shasta winters, espescially when paired with my filson double mackinaw coat and the filson lightweight jacket as a base layer. great quality, great performance. i had the regular mackinaw hat, but this one is much better to keep ears and back of neck warm. windproof and repels water.

When researching this product, a common complaint is that the hat runs small. So I sized up. What I got was a hat that fit pretty good when the shearling was up and a hat that was way too small when the shearling was down. A hat that sits so deep, the brim sits on your eyebrows if given the chance. Given my experience with Mackinaw Wool, it doesn't stretch so it won't "break in" Another problem I have is that Filson flat brims don't retain a bend and will always return to it's flat shape over a day or two. Lining- I'm not entirely sure why Filson opted for the polyester quilt. A nice layer of wool or cotton would have been a better, more breathable option given the all-natural build the rest of the hat has. For positives- The construction/durability is good. As one would expect from US-made Filson products. If you buy one that does fit you, expect years to decades worth of wear from it.
