This device can be connected to a rope while loaded because you don’t have to bend the rope to install it. There are no teeth to damage the rope but it bites the rope quickly when force is applied. The lift slides smoothly up the rope with no problem, and can be easily disengaged with the camming lever. I have used this device as a primary arrest in top rope solo and as a prusik. I am a little wary using it in top rope soloing because it is not intended for that use, but it works.

Perfect for TRS or other ascender needs, I’ve used it for about a dozen TRS sessions and it works flawlessly. It says I need more characters in the review so here you go.

Upon receipt, I found the spring loader on the cam to be somewhat sticky and slow to respond. A single drop of oil in the small opening solved the problem. Actually the way this device operates this may not be an issue, but I am not taking any chances with my life on the line - literally. Otherwise, the non-toothed cam appeals to me to mitigate rope wear. If I was going to depend on a device like this solo, not as part of a combo, then I might select one with a toothed cam. I bought this to use with my Petzl micro traxion. They work smooth on my top roping . In combination I feel pretty safe, an you don't get old being stupid.
