Excellent Gloves

I recently used these gloves on two different 11-12 hour hikes in chilly conditions. Temps were minus 12 F with wind chill at minus 20 to minus 30 F. These kept my hands warm from start to finish. Even with a good amount of hand sweat they still performed well and the gloves didn’t feel damp on the inside. I highly recommend these gloves.

Really Bulky Glove

As Ive said before, the new Terminator is much lighter than it used to be, and the new Punisher is much like the old Terminator and a good medium weight glove. So I bought the soloist online thinking it would be a good backup to my old heavy Punishers. Not so. The soloist seems to really be a non-technical glove perhaps for general mountaineering, or perhaps as a belay glove (it does come in a lobster claw which is nice for keeping fingers warm while belaying and racking). It is MUCH bulkier than the old Punisher, more insulated yes, but also fingers are longer and clumsy, and lots of extra material in the palm. No way I would be able to do ice or mixed in it - would drop all of my screws and draws! Although, it admittedly seems like its probably a lot warmer than the old Punishers. In comparison, the Hestra Alpinist Pro seems quite similar to the old Punishers, and this is quite a bit bulkier and warmer than either. so perhaps it would be great as a winter dog-route glove where you don't need the dexterity but the added warm and wind protection is helpful. just not useful for me.

Dissapointing

For the bulkiness and price of these gloves I expected warmer. Had these on snowblowing my driveway with wxtra liners inside for 45 mins in -7 C and had to switch to mittens because my fingers were numb.

So Happy So Far

Haven’t had a chance to wear them on the mountain yet, but they are extremely thick which hopefully translates to warmth. My hands tend to be very cold, in fact my whole body probably runs colder than most, so I usually dress 10 degrees warmer than everyone else. Bought them for use with an ice axe. Dexterity was a decent for how thick the fingers are. Not planning on losing one of those! Very well made piece of clothing. Can’t wait to try them out.
