Safe At 50

Neither my wife or I previously wore a helmet. My wife, the nurse, has a helmet, because wearing a helmet is the safe smart thing to do. However she does not wear it much as she says they are not necessary for slow leisure rides. We ride together and solo. Occasionally when I will head out on a solo ride she will say you need to be extra careful because you don’t have a helmet which I always find Amusing since she rarely wears hers. Earlier this summer as we were going on a ride my wife made a point to take and wear her helmet. When the topic came up, she said she got it after she hit 25 mph on a solo ride and decided it was time to wear her helmet. She said while in the past she figured it was unnecessary when we rode together since we never went over 10 mph she just figured it was better to be safe. The more we rode this summer the faster we started going. Eventually she asked if I would wear a helmet and i said sure. The next day she handed me a bell helmet in lime green. The helmet fit my normal male head and with some minor strap adjustments i was able to get a great fit. I snugged up the chin strap and we set off on a ride. During the ride It actually was very very light and comfortable very well vented and did not feel hot. It felt safe and i am sure i was riding harder than usual. When i was done my wife asked what I thought. I told her i liked it and would wear it.
