Here you have to “weigh” function over specs. Of course it is on the heavy side, but it has a job to do…keep it safe from critters and bears. Carrying a pound or two more to keep your food safe is worth it in the end. Not to mention, some parks/trails require you to have one, so might as well go with the one that works the best!

Haven't tested it out "in the wild" for the specific trip it was purchased for, so I can't say how it stands up to multiple days of backpacking/camping in a row. However, for trial runs it fits 2 peoples' worth of food for a shorter trip and fits in the backpack. Sure, it takes up a lot of room, but that's unavoidable. It's easy enough to open up once you try the motion a couple of times.

Purchased the product a few weeks ago and have been working on packing as much into it as possible. Great product and looking forward to using it on the trail for a long time.

I did a multiple day backpacking trip in Shenandoah. Legally I didn’t need a bear canister but it fit well in my pack and doubled as a chair when needed.

This is a pretty awesome bear vault. I finally pulled the trigger as I got tired of always burrowing one from a friend. This is perfect for me and the wife when we go up into the sierras for a long weekend.

The large opening and see through plastic makes it easier to see specific items and get them out. The screw on top keep water out as long as it is upright when at camp. It also makes a good bench. I purchased this for kayaking the inside passage.

This model's large size makes it super versatile for any kind of camping situation. It's also not too large that you can't take it backpacking

So much easier to open than my previous bear can. Also love that it’s transparent so you can see where your items are inside, and it can be used as a stool or small table.

Used in backcountry in Lake Clark NP with food safely secured. I esp liked how able to fit the canister horizontally in my Gregory 75 liter pack.

I used this on a backpack trip earlier this week and it was very easy to use. There were no issues in opening it after overnight storage. In addition, it does work great as a camp stool.

Worked great! We packed food for two of us for a 3-night backpacking trip in this canister. It was tight, but it all fit. I like that it is transparent so I could see what I was looking for in the bin without taking everything out. The bin also served as a sturdy, and much appreciated, camp chair!

Taken this on two week-long trips and it’s a necessity in California. Easily holds 7days of food and other smellables for one person and I could probably squeeze up to 9 days if I ditch the ramen. Makes the perfect camp stool in my opinion.

Bought a month ago still have yet to take it on the maiden voyage but I really like how you don't need any tools to open and close the canister up, just a strong thumb because the little lips are super rigid

It’s Big, it’s Sturdy, it’s Easy to Open, and it makes a nice stool. First trip with it went well. No issues. Carries a lot of food and stuff.

I bought this for an upcoming trip to RMNP. Haven't used it yet, but getting the lid off isn't a big deal and it fits in my 65L pack on its side. Those were my main concerns. I almost went with the smaller version of this, but decided I'd rather have the extra capacity for longer trips and will just put other non-food items in it on shorter trips to not have dead space. Plus, I thought the bigger one would be a more comfortable chair. I looked at all of the other options and I'm glad I went with this one.
