I purchased this at the end of November. It is about the ideal size for 4-5 day backpacking trips as it holds all of my dehydrated packets, toothpaste, etc... It is a little hard to open especially in cold weather.

We already own the Bearvault 500 and picked up the smaller one now for shorter or solo trips. While, yes it’s bulky and has some weight to it, I don’t think you can beat the simplicity of it. Close it up and toss it off always. I put reflective tape on ours, so that it’s easy to locate in the dark. Doubles perfectly as a seat or small table to set food on or play cards on while at camp. We have had no problems opening it, even on cold nights when the plastic is harder.

I initially bought the BV500 but when I got it I realized it was way too big for a three day trip. So I actually went on line and bought the 450 and then returned the 500. Super easy, they credited my account, and I got my 450 in about three days. Perfect size for a three day trip.

The BV450 is a good in-between size for shorter trips. Not so small that you can’t bring what you need, but not too overwhelmingly big. Yes, they are inherently bulky, however the construction is solid. Though probably one of the pricier pieces of Tupperware you will purchase, this comes with the confidence that it will last.

Bought this for a trip to Maroon Bells in Colorado. This was the perfect size for four days worth of food. This is on the heavy side and sometimes difficult to open, but I guess that is by design. Will use this when I have to, but there are far better options if not backpacking in areas where these are required.

Haven’t tried it in bear country yet but for weekend camping trips on the east coast it works way better than any bag keeping critters out. Was worried about it being bulky but it fits perfectly in my Flash 55 with room on either side for my cook pot, diddy bag, etc. Definitely use the credit card method to open.

Great for use on a hike into Olympic National Park. Used for protecting my food and anything that had a scent to it. Solid and air tight, just what was needed.

I've used this while camping in bear county. So far, neither I nor my food have been eaten by a bear. If the latter changes, I'll update my review. If the former changes, you'll never know.

I can barley get this thing open, so good luck Bear! It is especially hard when in lower temperatures. I would never use this unless required because of the weight. I was able to fit enough food for two people to last 3 days.

Easy to use, lightweight, held enough food for 2 person overnight hike to include a decent amount of ground coffee and some mini toiletries. This was my first bear canister, I used to just throw a bag in the trees.

It's pretty good at protecting our food, too. Living in the Southeast we're in black bear country, but I've mainly had issues with squirrels and raccoons wanting to investigate my food. I've previously used Garcia and BareBoxer and I really liked them, but they don't fit my current cooking set up. I really love the wide mouth of the Bear Vault, it's much easier to pack my food, cook kit, toiletries, etc. And I can see them! No more dumping everything out to find my toothpaste! This easily held food and other smellable items for two people for a two day one night trip. If it were going to be a longer trip, I'd probably just use this one solo and re-package my food to cut down on wasted space. The two locking tabs aren't horrible, though I haven't had a chance to use the canister in cold weather yet.

I'm excited to use this actually. I hate hanging bear bags. Apparently it's heavier then most people expect but it has to withstand a bear climbing and chewing on it. So of course it's going to be heavy-duty. I'm not looking forward to the extra weight but it's worth it so I don't have the hang a bag or find a tree good enough to hang in.

While this looks kind of small in pictures online, it is the perfect size for a two person weekend trip. Easy to open (for a human) with either a credit car or just using fingers.

I purchased the BV450 about a month ago. The purchase, delivery and price met my expectations. It perfect for my weekend backpacking trips. As I hoped the bears are not a fan of the Vault.
