First Astrals I didn’t like. I figured they’d be like the regular Scufflers, but with a mesh. The fit is so much tighter, they’re hard to put on and take off. They feel uncomfortably tight in the same size as the Scuffler that I love and the mesh really is very much mesh, I guess I didn’t realize how minimal the material is and so it’s unusable in winter here.

Theses TR1s are great. I think they are the the most comfortable Astral I've tried so far. The others I’ve gotten are perfect for what I bought them for. This is my fourth different kind and only one of those I probably won’t buy again. I have 7 pairs total. Great shoes and great company in my opinion

Nice, lightweight trail shoes! Perfect for hiking in warm or cool weather. Breathes nicely, forms to foot well. Good grip on the trail.

Overall, this is a good shoe. However, it runs small and narrow. I typically wear a size 14 wide, and while the shoe is comfortable, it feels a bit tight along the sides. That said, if you have narrow feet, this shoe would likely be a perfect fit for you.
Best shoe I’ve ever purchased , light, comfortable, wide toe box, sharp looking !

Awesome soles. I always find most zero drop shoes try to have a minimalist sole, which leaves my feet tired

Awesome casual walking shoe. Breathable, light. Do not expose to dirt or water.

An amazing all-round river shoe! These shoes look sharp, grip well, and have just the right balance of flexibility in the boat and support for on the trail.

The TR1 Mesh is true to size and are a very comfortable shoe I matched mine with a pair of Cressi Ultra Stretch Neoprene Socks, 1.5mm, which kept my feet warm in Missouri's spring-fed Ozark Mountains streams. They kept every rock out. The one drawback to the shoes is they are sand magnates. Luckily, the neoprene socks kept the sand off my feet but i have to stoo fishing, wading and exploring long enough to dump out sand. As long as you have gravel bottom streams or larger stones, you will love these shoes. I do want to mention when larger stones are covered in moss and super slippery, boots with metal cleats work better than these shoes.

Overall great shoes! My only complaint is the grip in a stream setting. For most applications there is plenty of grip, but if you were using them exclusively as a wading shoe for fishing it may not meet your expectations. Maybe not the intention of the design but it is what I bought them for. Overall a great buy.

I have looked for a decent canoe tripping shoe for my stupid wide feet for 40 years...this is by far the best option I have ever found! The fit is great, the comfort is great, both wet and dry (mostly...see below), the grip on wet rocks, also great. Good support and they even have laces that stay tied! Not perfect though: - My biggest complaint is that, when worn with bare feet (as I assume they're meant to be), I get sore spots developing on the little toe and heel of my left foot. Now, that said, I have never had a water shoe that didn't wear a hole in my foot, and the TR1 Mesh performed better than others in this regard. But still... - They don't drain as well as I'd like. I invariably wind up with a cup or two of water in the canoe every time I get in, no matter how long I stand awkwardly with one foot suspended over the gunwale waiting for the water to trickle out - They also don't dry as quickly as I'd like, which isn't a big deal when I'm in and out of the canoe through the day, but I still need to bring a pair of campsite shoes if I want to be comfortable in the evening. I've only been using these for a couple months, so I can't speak to the longevity, but so far, so good!

These shoes are almost perfect but as other reviews have noted, the durability leaves much to be desired. After one use on a backpacking/fishing trip, the top mesh has a hole and the rubber over the left big toe has started coming off the shoe. Even so, the support and traction are terrific. I was looking for a cross functional shoe that works well in and out of water and these fit the bill. If only they had the durability of Astral’s Loyaks then we’d really have something here.

The heel cup on TR1s provide a very secure and comfortable fit for everyday use on dirt, asphalt, or water. I’ve put a ton of miles on these, from North Carolina rivers to Paris museums. They’re super lightweight, have more grip and cushion than Brewers, and dry fast. I still like my Brewers for kayaking, but reach for the TR1s almost everyday.

I hate having to do this but it’s a reoccurring issue I have with Astral shoes. I’m a whitewater/wilderness guide in the Gunnison Gorge and do trips in the Glenwood Canyon. Me and other coworkers have bought Astral but now we’re leaning off them. I bought the green version of these Shoes last year in June…. I didn’t even get a full year of use before the mesh started ripping fall of last year making the shoe useless. Very unfortunate considering everything else with the shoe is practically perfect… I will say they are very comfortable and hold up extremely well on wet rocks but obviously they gotta be durable too especially for the price. Someone recommended the Danner Rivercomber might have to give those a try
I work and play in Haywood Co in the Pigeon most days of the week and this shoe has been with me for two years, just now showing a tear or two. I'm circling back to buy another pair. I tried on many shoes over the years to find the right fit (size-able toe box, level offset, etc) and love that Astral is local, focuses on these things, and caters to those who play and work in the water. Highly recommend.
