Such a useful piece of kit... I bought this to use as a mid-layer on non-technical winter days out (I have an Nuclei vest for harsh weather and extra warmth), but it has ended up coming with me on so many more days than I expected. The cut of a medium is perfect on my 6'1" average build; not going to get too thick a fleece under it, but that's not what it's for I suppose.. where it does excel is as a super-packable boost of heat that breathes waaay better than the Nuclei but offers surprisingly decent wind protection too. I wear it for everything now above freezing ( or below if i am hoping to stay on the move).. Got to say that the material does stain quite a bit and the outer fabric might not be the most robust, so I don't really use it for work. It is thee best ski-touring/mountaineering outer layer I own - and if combined with the Practitioner jacket or lightweight Proton for super cold days, is just about all I will ever take again (+ a shell if howling or wet). One minor quibble is that the zip puller is exact same colour as the shell material and the zip, this makes it hard to see and grab with goggles on.

Do Not Buy--cheaper Build Than Priors.
They cheapened the build by taking away the inside chest pocket. Now I have nowhere to put my keys safely throughout the day and forget about them. Did not realize this in store/they did not tell me.

An Upsetting Revision
I wouldn’t be surprised if all of these 5-star reviews were from people who didn’t have the pleasure of owning the last generation Atom vest. It is so enjoyable to wear that I measure how good my year is based on how many days I get to wear my Atom LT vest. Not really, but almost. The smooth fleece on the backhand and ultra-breathable fabric on the palm side in the pockets created a pleasurable user experience anytime my hands got cold. The same fleece around the neck also created a cozy feeling anytime I zipped up the vest, and it was durable against a prickly beard. These are gone. Regarding the chest pocket, I use it every time I wear the vest. I love that it was an interior pocket, as it maintained a beautiful, sleek look. Not having an interior chest pocket is a deal breaker for me. The face fabric also feels less soft. This new design compromises a versatile and enjoyable everyday experience. It replaces it with an ultra-technical, limited-use layer, which would be better achieved with different insulation and features anyway. I’m not convinced this new design was meant to facilitate a lighter, more eco-friendly design. I understand that the mentioned fleece sheds microplastics and that omitting a chest pocket saves ounces. But the amount for both is minute and insignificant. I have difficulty believing these changes weren’t just an egregious way to save on costs. I thoroughly hope nothing happens to my current Atom LT vest since only downgrades exist to replace it.

Bring Back The Old School!
This is probably the worst version of my favorite vest ever. Not only did they make they get rid of the ripstop face material, new later is extremely fragile and prone to abrasions wear. My friends new vest has a wear line from just a seat belt!! No chest pocket, and less fleece on the side panel due to the octa shenanigans means more heat escaping. Basically paying more money for less material in all the ways. And don’t even get me started on the sizing. I used to be a small, now it’s way too small, and a medium is just too big. Arcteryx’s new corporate vision is slowly losing this loyal customer. Bring back the rad brand I fell in love with!

This Will Be Your Favorite Vest
The Atom Vest is a perfect vest. Why? Because it's light enough to wear on those in-between weather days, and warm enough to keep you in good shape when the temperature really drops. It's sleek and snug and just does the job.
