I have been wearing Altras for years, usually the Escalantes or Torins. These Escalantes are great. I love zero drop shoes (and wish Altra would stop making low-drop ones!!!) with wide toe boxes. This model fits true to size (purchase your normal size for Altras.) TBD on how well these will wear - some models tend to wear out faster than others.

I am not a runner, but simply bought this shoe for its color. Now that I have worn it, I’ve realized I have purchased a wonderful shoe! I love how the front toe box is not narrow and does not crowd my toes. Also, very light weight! So happy with my purchase!

I’ve been wearing the Escalantes for 2-1/2 weeks and feeling more sure footed and balanced in this 70 yr. old body! The zero drop and extra roomy toe box are making my toes very happy. Ready to purchase in additional colors.

I'm very happy with the design; it's simple, elegant, and most importantly, comfortable.

I loved the older versions of this shoe including 1.5 model. I tried every version after and ended up returning each one. This model is the closest they’ve gotten to my favorite, 1.5. The main difference is the sole of the shoe is less flexible.

I had my last pair for three years. They are a perfect gym shoe and a nice dark black. Unfortunately, my new dog ate them. My new ones arrived today and are not remotely black. They are navy/gray color as someone else described. The picture on the website definitely shows a true black. I already have a gray Altra and I'm bummed that my go to gym and work shoe is no longer going to match with all of my black clothing. I highly recommend advertising it as the color it is, or even better, pretty please bring back the nice dark black version! The shoe itself still looks and fits great. I guess time will tell if the sole peels back as others have mentioned.

I use this shoe for running mainly and love the wider toe box. It's a comfortable fit. The stack is not too high at 24 mm - I also have the escalante racer which has a 22mm stack. I am trying to progress down to minimalist shoes so the escalante 4 are a good step in that transition. I would like to see more choices from Altra with a low cushioning/ stack especially in their trail shoes. But I love that they stay loyal to the wider toe box and zero drop

I absolutely love these shoes. I bought one pair around the beginning of June and loved them so much that I bought another pair a month or so later. They are awesome to walk in and wear on a daily basis. They are so comfortable right out of the box. The only complaint I have is that the first pair I bought now have holes in the back of the heels so they now hurt my heel when I wear them. They are only 3 months old! It's unfortunate to pay that much for a pair of shoes for them to only last 3 months.

I really love these shoes and they have actually been really great for my shin splints and back. However, a section of the sole is peeling off after only about a month and a half of wear possibly even less than that. I don't really wear them that much since it's summer and I've been in mostly sandals, but I've been wearing them to the gym about four times a week. They peeled off after less than 25 days of wearing them which I've never had to happen with any other shoes. However, I continue wearing them because they have been the best shoes for my back and shins. I just wish the sole was better quality.

I walk 7 miles a day and always would wear On Cloud X because they are the only ones that didn't hurt my feet. I have tried Hoka, Nike, On, ASICS, Reebok to name a few and since On changed their Cloud X they hurt too. I love these - they are comfortable and don't hurt at all.

The shoe feels great but looks terrible because it's a navy/gray color when it's advertised as black! Thought I had found the perfect shoe until these arrived. Escalante meets all my criteria (zero drop, natural wide toe box, normal amount of cushion like a "regular" shoe) but I ordered and desired a BLACK shoe. These shoes match none of my clothing and are a huge disappointment. Hoping Altra exchanges them for something that meets my needs but I don't see any other styles in black that don't have an excessive amount of cushion. I really wish this model ACTUALLY came in black. It would be so easy for them to make this a black shoe like the one in the picture but alas... If style is important to you, don't order this shoe. It looks nothing like the shoe in the picture on the site.

The fit Perfect and so comfortable now I just need a discount code for the next pair

Very comfortable shoe but it does feel a touch too narrow how it's advertised. There is also already damage to same place on the tongue of both shoes in the right corner. I want to like them!

These are my new favorite work shoes! I am a nurse who works in a fast paced unit at a hospital for 12 hour shifts, let me tell you my feet don't hurt after. I've been searching for years for a shoe to help with my tired aching legs and feet. What makes these good for me is the slight negative heel drop , wide toe box and lower profile. I have tried many other expensive brands, some literally feel like I'm walking in wet sand because of the incredibly high profile and cushion. I wear mostly barefoot type shoes at home but I found I needed a little cushion at work due to concrete floors. Thanks for making a shoe that seems to be made for me! I will definitely repurchase.
